The Therapeutic Mentoring Program is a one-to-one, strength-based mentoring service provided by specially trained volunteer mentors working with identified youth receiving mental health treatment throughout Catholic Charities Family Services. The program utilizes the 40 Developmental Assets Model from Search Institute as a framework for teaching mentors the positive experiences and qualities essential to healthy youth development.
Mentors are required to visit once a week, complete all required background checks, undergo initial mandatory training, and attend ongoing monthly trainings. After each visit a mentor log is completed and submitted to the Mentor Coordinator, the therapist, and any other identified team members.
Mentors become a special visitor, a positive role model and a consistent person in a child's life. Children learn that a healthy relationship included trust and responsibility. We have seen this serious and personal commitment by an adult, change a child's life.
We have mentor opportunities available in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Baltimore City, Carroll, and Hartford Counties.
