4heads NonProfit is seeking wonderfully talented volunteers for its 2016 season on Governors Island. You have the opportunity to work hand in hand with the artists and organizers of both our Arts Education Program and our annual Governors Island Art Fair. We are a fun group of artists, many of whom have been in the NYC arts scene for 20+ years, who work hard to bring the underserved artists of the world an opportunity to show at this unique fair, with up to 20,000 visitors each season! Our arts education program connects grade-school children from all over NYC with working artists and musicians to learn about the arts and encourage participation in creative pursuits. If this sounds exciting and fun to you, please read on! We look forward to hearing from you.

**If you are a current student, we can offer college credit for your participation**

About the Volunteer Program:

We are seeking creative volunteers who are passionate about the arts, great multitaskers, have experience working in fairs and/or nonprofits or willing and eager to learn. 4heads is a grassroots style nonprofit; we wear many hats and encourage our volunteers to particpate in multiple aspects of the faiir as well. We are a community and a family and we all help each other out! A team that works together stays together, and we want your interests and talents to be maximized so you can grow and learn along with us. We are proud that this program encourages the creative spirit the 4heads team has had since day one, and maybe it will convert you to an art fair junkie like us!

About the Arts Education Program:

4heads partners with youth organizations to offer arts education courses, giving students the chance to study with working artists. For many young people this is a unique opportunity to be exposed to the arts. Governors Island provides a safe park environment in which to learn with lots of open spaces to enjoy. The courses will run weekly in July and August, and are speerheaded by our Arts Ed coordinator as well as artists from the 4heads' residency program.

Mission Statement

4heads is a New York City nonprofit organization created by artists for artists. Their goals are to foster community by offering space for artists, to provide arts-education for the underserved, and to expose hidden culture. They support a collaborative DIY spirit while catalyzing dialogue between artists and people from all walks of life.

Description

Governors Island Art Fair is organized by 4heads, a New York City nonprofit organization created by artists for artists. Indulge your curiosity as you explore the abandoned military barracks of Governors Island Art Fair, 100 singular rooms of painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, and sound art. Run by artists, for artists, New York’s largest independent exhibition enters its 8th year this fall. Once again GIAF organizers, 4heads, have sifted through a sea of creative proposals from New York and around the world, giving 100 of the best a full room each, in which to wreak havoc as they see fit. GIAF also features independent galleries-encouraging the dialogue between artists and art dealers. And outside on the grass, live music, large-scale sculpture, food, drink and more. Can’t wait until September? 4heads’ Artists in Residence keep their studio doors open every weekend, all summer long on the island. Get your culture fix on Governors Island - there’s enough art here to start a new country.

GIAF takes place at Colonel’s Row on Governors Island. Admission is free. Catalogues are available for purchase for $20. Hours are 11am - 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays, September 5 - 27, 2015. Governors Island is accessible by an 8-minute ferry ride from the Battery Maritime Building (10 South Street) in Lower Manhattan or a 3-minute ferry ride from Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 (at the end of Atlantic Avenue, at Columbia Street) in Brooklyn. The ferry ride costs $2.
