Mission Statement
The Richmond Peace Education Center works for a just and peaceful community by promoting nonviolence locally and globally
Description
Founded in 1980 by community members and people of faith concerned about the proliferation of nuclear weapons, the Richmond Peace Education Center works to advance peace locally and globally. With over 800 members, it is the largest, and the oldest, organization of its kind in the Richmond area. The center conducts public education on war and militarism and sponsors the Richmond Youth Peace Project, a coalition of high school students that promotes nonviolence through performing arts. The Richmond Peace Education Center has trained hundreds of youth and prisoners in nonviolent conflict resolution techniques over the past decade. In addition, it publishes a bimonthly newsletter with a circulation of about 1,000.
