There are approximately 9,294 children in foster care in Indiana. When a child is taken from a home that has been deemed unsafe by Child Protective Services (CPS), the child may take only a small amount of toys, clothes, and personal belongings. Many times, CPS workers just don't have enough suitcases to use so when a child arrives at a child crisis center, group home, or foster home many times they arrive with literally one or two large black trash bags full of personal items.

We ask people to sew kid-friendly pillowcases with a drawstring/straps to give to foster kids instead of black trash bag. Visit www.sewforfosterkids.com for patterns and volunteers can work at their own pace. Once you have some pillowcases completed, pleasae contact Michelle at indsewingproject@gmail.com and arrange to drop off or mail them to her. She will deliver to various CPS offices and Child Crisis Centers.

Website offers patterns so volunteers can work at their own pace. Church groups, sewing circles and others have volunteered to help with this project.
