B.E.A.R. is a small non-profit agency that has served Ravalli County for over 20 years. B.E.A.R serves a large number of at-risk youth through the B.E.A.R. Mentoring program, which addresses and prevents juvenile delinquency for youth ages 10 - 17. The at-risk youth that B.E.A.R. serves experience one or more of the following risk factors: school drop-out, academic failure, economically disadvantaged, victim of physical, psychological or sexual abuse, detention in a juevenile facility, child of alcohol/substance abusers, committed a violent or delinquent act, mental health problem, or has attempted suicide.
Duties:
The VISTA member will first build capacity and sustainability for current programming, and second, will help B.E.A.R. create and secure additional funding as well as other reliable long-term support channels. The VISTA will assist with strategic planning to determine the organization's objectives and goals for future programming. B.E.A.R.’s youth mentoring programs currently have a waiting list, and community partners have unanimously voiced the need for more mentoring services in Ravalli County. The VISTA will be a key part in determining B.E.A.R.'s role in providing additional mentoring services. To that end, the VISTA will create a volunteer recruitment and training plan to increase the number of at-risk youth receiving mentoring services. Finally, the VISTA will help develop a capital campaign to secure future funding for B.E.A.R. which will be used to expand mentoring services.
