AmeriCorps*VISTA

* Design, oversee, and evaluate an enrichment workshop to be presented by service-learning college students serving to families from low-income neighborhoods.

* Build capacity within two community agencies, expanding efforts to increase student achievement in the areas of math, science, and reading.

* Build on an earlier pilot project that established a system for service-learning students and their supervisors in after-school programs to collaborate on themed lessons and activities teaching basic concepts about health determinants to children in under-resourced communities.

* Develop new opportunities for youth to be exposed to potential careers in the health professions.

* Coordinate with the Community Action Network (CAN) volunteer group made up of underserved children and youth, with the goal of empowering them to be engaged in their community while also increasing their competitiveness as college candidates.
