AmeriCorps*VISTA

* Continue the work of previous VISTAs in utilizing service learning as an instructional strategy to facilitate the improvement of learning and success in low-achieving schools.

* Provide training and support to teachers in the community to develop service-learning projects that will address community needs, while also creating a culture of stronger student engagement in the classroom.

* Guide participating teachers in sustainability of the program and in implementing service-learning projects on their own

* Facilitate student involvement/engagement, as well as deepen the students’ and teachers’ knowledge of service-learning and how it can be used to improve learning and success in schools

* Establish and sustain community partners, both with higher education institutions and volunteer centers/community organizations, to create a college-going culture to promote college success.
