* Build community awareness of poverty and relationship to educational achievement

* Encourage student participation from local school districts in the Mcihigan Student Service Award program.

* Work with Volunteer Connections staff to develop and support Literacy Corps

* Coordinate work of volunteers, publicize volunteer opportunities and recruit targeted volunteers for Literacy Corps needs

* Provide volunteers with adequate training, support and communication

* Provide info for Literacy/Education volunteers about impact of their work in relation to academic engagement of students in low-achieving schools

* Support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program for early literacy
