Do you speak Chinese, Farsi, or Spanish in addition to English? Do you want to help seniors in your community learn about important subjects that can have a positive impact on their lives? Volunteer as an interpreter during activity time at Columbia Park Manor in Pittsburg!
Interpreters are needed beginning in June once per week to provide interpretation for five nutrition and cooking classes taking place at Columbia Park Manor, an affordable housing site for seniors in Pittsburg. The volunteer will NOT be responsible for teaching the class or providing materials, but will be needed for interpreting for the course instructor, as well as interpreting questions that students in the course may have for the instructor. A Chinese interpreter is the most urgent need for this course. The interpreter does not need to be an expert in cooking or nutrition, but a knowledge of general cooking or nutrition terms would be helpful. Please apply to be a volunteer interpreter today!
ABOUT SAHA: Satellite Affordable Housing Associates is committed to providing quality, service-enriched, affordable housing in the bay area. By providing consistent, volunteer-led programing, we hope to build community at each of our properties, while offering accessible, socialization alternatives. Our hope is to provide the necessary tools for our senior residents to age in place, and to provide exciting new opportunities for our residents to build community with their fellow residents. ABOUT THE VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: The volunteer program is managed by the volunteer coordinator who will follow up to your opportunity inquiries about an application and interview. Please note that we are only able to accommodate 9am-5pm Mon-Fri availability. In the interest of providing consistent activities for our residents, we ask that activities occur on a regular schedule; monthly, weekly or bi-weekly preferred. Residents greatly appreciate and look forward these activities as well as enjoying the company of volunteers who make them possible. Please sign up today!

Description
The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
