ORGANIZATION: Animal Protective League

  • 2 people are interested

We are in need of shift leaders, ages 21 and above, for our Junior Volunteer program. The Junior Volunteer program is offered through the Animal Protective League for kids in the ages 12-15, that are excited to lend a helping hand towards our greater goal of saving lives. During this program the Junior Volunteers help with daily cleaning and projects at the shelter and assist with fundraisers; all the while having fun learning about animal welfare through humane education.

This program will be held from Tuesday-Friday 8:30am-12:30pm with the starting date of Tuesday, June 12th and ending date of Friday, August 3rd. Each Shift Leader will be supervising about 2-6 Junior Volunteers per day. While supervising the JV’s we encourage you to help out and of course have fun! We will also have a few fundraisers this summer for the program, so some evening and weekend shifts will be required. More information on the fundraiser and events will be given upon sign-up.

If you are interested in being a Shift Lead this summer please contact me and let me know by Monday, April 16th. Once Shift Leads are selected, they will need to attend a special orientation, dog training and spend time training with our animal care staff so they are able to lead and assist the Junior Volunteers. Shift Leads will be required to wear an APL Shift Lead t-shirt; we will get sizes at orientations.

I look forward to talking with and meeting with everyone that is interested in this opportunity. With this program we are able to teach these young kids the proper way to take care of animals and help them grow into caring adults and responsible pet owners.

About Animal Protective League

Location:

1001 Taintor Rd, Springfield, IL 62702, US

Mission Statement

The Animal Protective League is a non-profit 501C(3) organization dedicated to caring for ill, injured and abused homeless animals and coordinating the adoption of those animals by responsible pet owners. It further is committed to ending companion animal overpopulation by offering high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter services.

Description

APL is dedicated to ending the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals in our community and surrounding areas. In order to achieve this goal we operate a limited-admission shelter and a high-volume, low-cost spay/neuter clinic. APL's shelter gives priority to sick and injured animals and animals facing euthanasia in area county facilities. APL saves approximately 2,000 animals each year by housing them, providing medical treatment, vaccinations and adopting them into loving homes. In addition, our spay/neuter clinic performs over 13,000 surgeries each year and is a key component in reducing the number of unwanted litters that are born each year. Since opening in 2006 the number of animals being euthanized in our area has decreased by 68%!

Our volunteer program offers wonderful opportunities for the community to get involved and make a difference in the lives animals and members of the community. Our volunteer program provides a variety of opportunities including: shelter cleaning and animal care, dog walking, community outreach programs such as our paws to read program in schools and nursing home visits, taking animals to offsite locations for adoption events, fundraising opportunities, gardening and maintenance, fostering, laundry, office work, humane education and much much more!
