Mission Statement

Hospice serves people and their communities affected by life-limiting illness and loss by providing comprehensive, compassionate care, while respecting each person's needs beliefs and wishes.

Description

The path to Hospice of North Central Florida was created more than 20 years ago out of the combined vision and energies of local physician Dr. Raymond Fitzpatrick, the former administrator of Alachua General Hospital, Edward C. Peddie and the president of the AGH Auxiliary, Alice Sharpe.

From a single room in a Gainesville hospital, Hospice of North Central Florida has grown to serve more than 400 patients daily throughout a 16-county service area. Since opening its doors more than two decades ago, Hospice of North Central Florida has provided care to more than 20,000 patients and their families. Patients come from all walks of life, span all ages and have various life-limiting illnesses.

Hospice is about comfort, support, compassion and dignity. Hospice is about embracing patients with any kind of life-limiting illness, regardless of age, gender, race, sexual orientation or ability to pay. Hospice is also about providing services and programs that can help people live complete and rich lives in spite of loss and grief.

Hospice is a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit organization. Medicare, Medicaid and many private insurance plans cover some or all of hospice services. The provision of Hospice care is based on a person's need rather than his/her ability to pay.
