ORGANIZATION: GlobalGiving

Are you interested in field experience for a career in international development, program management, soccer-based youth development, coaching or teaching? Would you like to spend a year working with incredible girls ages 7-19 in a unique place?

Soccer Without Borders is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Granada, Nicaragua site from June 2016-June 2017. We work with girls age 7-19 in the city of Granada, located about an hour southeast of the country's capital, Managua. SWB uses five core program activities (soccer, team building, educational workshops, civic engagement and cultural exchange) to address the significant barriers that girls face as they maneuver youth, adolescence, and approach adulthood. The community and team identity fostered in the program provides our girls with a network of caring peers and mentors that acts as essential support as they grow up in a society with few avenues to success.

The program has grown tremendously in seven years to build and sustain the only girls-specific space in the city of Granada that is focused on education and sport. SWB Granada is now home to more than 120 girls year-round, while reaching hundreds of additional youth through camps, clinics, tournaments, and coaching courses.

The primary focus of this position will be working alongside the Nicaraguan staff members to lead one of SWB Granada's five teams (ages 7-8, 9-11, 11-13, 13-15, 16-19) to deliver weekly, year-round programming on the field and off. Each Intern position also carries a secondary role within the program administration, preparing interns with tangible work experience in one of several areas: Bookkeeping, Monitoring & Evaluation, Facility Management, Marketing & Community Outreach, Program Partnership Logistics Coordinator, and Civic Engagment Coordinator.

Are you a good fit? Check out the requirements below:

comfortably conversational in Spanish (required minimum)
able to commit to 12 months from June 2016-June 2017
flexible and open-minded
passionate about the SWB mission and committed to youth development through sport
self-motivated, proactive, and hard-working
confident in front of a group, both on the field and off
knowledgeable about the game of soccer
friendly, outgoing, and low-maintenance
Superstar candidates are: fluent in Spanish, apt with Microsoft Office programs and Google Docs, familiar with Latin American culture, comfortable developing and delivering practices and lesson plans

Mission Statement

Build an efficient, open, thriving marketplace that connects people who have community and world-changing ideas with people who can support them.

Description

GlobalGiving was founded by two former World Bank executives who decided to use the Internet to create a highly efficient marketplace. The GlobalGiving platform enables more funding to reach projects throughout the globe, and, at the same time, provides a more transparent, engaging way for donors to give.
Because we enable donors to give directly to projects, they know exactly where their money is going. Donors can see progress updates on most projects as funding is received and goals are met.

Donations made through GlobalGiving are higher impact because:

  • Money is going directly to a well-defined project versus supporting general operating expenses
  • Projects on globalgiving.com have exposure to thousands of donors, enabling us to aggregate multiple sources of funding for each project
  • Many projects on globalgiving.com are located in the developing world where a little money goes a long way
