Compassus Hospice is seeking friendly, well-mannered, calm dogs, that are registered as therapeutic pets, to join our team, together with their compassionate people, willing to bring peace and comfort to our hospice patients. Volunteers are a vital component of the hospice team and greatly appreciated for the companionship and supportive presence that they provide to our patients at the end of their lives. So .... adding to that a few more kisses/licks, really brings joy to our patients and their families.

We have home patients as well as patients in assisted living facilities and group homes. The volunteer opportunity is flexible and based on your availability and the needs of the patient. Pet therapy dogs and their human counterparts/volunteers needed in East, West and Central Phoenix Area.

Description

Volunteers are the heart of hospice! We need your caring hearts and helping hands to help with our terminally ill patients and their families. The hours are flexible and you will be assigned to a patient who lives near your home or place of work. There are many ways you can make a difference as a Compassus Hospice Volunteer.

Volunteers visit with patients who have life limiting illnesses. Visiting may consist of providing meaningful conversation, playing cards, reading to a patient, looking through photo albums, etc. Volunteers may also help with errands or provide support for the caregivers. Most of our patients reside in nursing homes, group homes, assisted livings or their private residence.

We also utilize administrative volunteers. There are a lot of tasks in the office we can use help with.

As a volunteer, you are part of a professional care team which includes doctors, nurses, aides, chaplains and social workers. The time commitment made by volunteers is flexible and training is provided.

Skills: Compassionate and able to keep commitments.
