ORGANIZATION: Historic Wagner Farm

Wagner Youth Squad involves local students, ages 14-17, in farm life and museum operations by hands-on volunteering in various areas of the historic farm and museum. Students earn a certificate of appreciation by completing 40 or more hours of volunteer work in a season. Squad volunteer activities vary with the time of year and include helping with special events, gardening, giving tours and helping visitors learn about our farm animals. Youth Squad volunteers may join at any time during the season, but the number of hours to achieve the certificate for that season remains the same.

Youth Squad members will volunteer 36 or more hours in any of the volunteer areas, plus an additional four hours at the Fall Harvest Event in October. Successful completion of the program earns each member the certificate and a letter of reference suitable for college and/or employment application purposes.

About Historic Wagner Farm

Location:

1510 Wagner Rd., Glenview, IL 60025, US

Mission Statement

To promote an educational and memorable experience through programs and site visits that ignite the imagination, inspire our visitors, and preserve our local agricultural history.

Description

Historic Wagner Farm is one of the last working dairy farms in Cook County and is open to the public for recreation and learning. The farm provides a unique opportunity for families to learn about our farming heritage and experience first hand "the way things used to be."

In addition to the cows in the pasture, Wagner Farm has chickens, draft horses, and pigs as well as a restored farmhouse and barn and the award-winning Wagner Farm Heritage Center. The Heritage Center contains interactive exhibits where you can learn about farming from the early 20th century through the present, "shop through history" at our 1930s Grocery Store or purchase a souvenir of your visit from our Museum Store.

Historic Wagner Farm offers public visitation hours, educational programs for all ages, and special events throughout the year as well as seasonal sales of farm products.
