Pathways to Compassion Hospice is looking for pet therapy volunteers!

The volunteer will bring their certified pet to visit with hospice patients. The pet volunteer provides support services in compliance with hospice policies. The pet therapy certified pet is utilized therapeutically to implement the hospice plan of care, providing tactile stimulation, aid in relaxation, companionship, and other quality of life benefits to patients.

Dogs must have "Canine Good Citizen" certificate or be a certified therapy dog. All vaccinations must be up-to-date as well. Routine grooming necessary.

Volunteer must complete paperwork (including a background check,) two Tuberculosis skin tests, and volunteer training prior to visiting patients. Volunteer must bring their pet to meet the Volunteer Coordinator prior to seeing patients.

Hospice Philosophy Hospice provides palliative support and care for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so that they may live as fully and as comfortable as possible. Hospice recognizes dying as part of the normal process of living and focuses on maintaining the quality of remaining life. Hospice affirms life and neither hastens nor postpones death. Hospice exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care, and the promotion of a caring community sensitive to their needs, patients and their families may be free to attain a degree of mental, social, physical and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory to them.
