Assistant Hospitality Monitors provide a welcoming presence for our unhoused neighbors in the sanctuary of Saint John as they sleep or rest or seek help. Volunteers, with the Hospitality Monitor staff, help set the tone, engage guests, give out food as well as emergency and essential supplies, and clean the space as needed.
Shifts generally last one and a half to two or two and a half hours, Monday through Friday. The first shift starts at 6am and the last shift ends at 12:30pm. Current openings vary. Contact us to arrange for a short orientation, usually on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Once you've attended an orientation we'll find a shift that matches your availability.

About The Gubbio Project
Location:
1661 15th Street, San Francisco, CA 94103, US
Mission Statement
To be in community with and to provide a sacred space and sanctuary for unhoused people in need of safe, compassionate respite during the day
Description
In 2003, St. Boniface Neighborhood Center began working toward a concrete response to the increasing numbers of women and men seeking refuge from the streets during the daylight hours, particularly during periods of inclement weather. Working in Collaboration with St. Boniface Church, this response took tangible form in April 2004 with the launching of The Gubbio Project. Inspired by Francis of Assisi's solidarity with and love for the poor and outcast, In 2015, we began partnering with St John the Evangelist Episcopal Church.
The Gubbio Project provides a system of outreach, compassionate support services and lots of advocacy. All services are open to anyone regardless of their religious affiliation. We seek to serve those individuals and families who survive without any safety net from the public sector.
Facets of The Gubbio Project include: Outreach workers for those seeking a listening ear, a referral, clothing, a blanket, or just a welcoming presence; maintenance of a quiet, sacred space for prayer, sleep, or meditation; availability of clean, safe restrooms, programs including Foot Care, Chair Massages, Assistance and more.
