Make a difference in the lives of others-help address poverty and food insecurity by joining Happy Dancing Turtle (HDT) as a year-long VISTA .

Located in the town of Pine River, MN, HDT is a member of the Resilient Living Council. HDT’s mission is to build, demonstrate and promote sustainable living solutions that are economically and ecologically practical.

HDT is looking for a VISTA to grow and expand its Food Youth Biz (FYB), a program intended to unite strong growth in the local food sector with agricultural opportunities for area youth. The FYB’s primary focus is to build students’ self-esteem, self-reliance and self-resilience by empowering them with an understanding of how to grow healthy food while providing them with the tools they will need to succeed in the workplace and business world. Responsibilities will include:

• Review & assess current FYB program to determine effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• Develop curriculum for high school students to increase time spent on hands-on activities, financial literacy and entrepreneurial experiences during the school year and in the summer months.
• Research & develop recommendations for a farm or local food-based enterprise to provide reliable, long term financial support for FYB programming.
• Research & assess options to expand FYB to elementary age students.

Candidates should have experience in youth education & curriculum development in addition to knowledge and/or interest of local food systems and sustainable agriculture.
