House Tours : Volunteers lead the public through tours of the exterior and interior of the house. Public tours are offered on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. All tours of the house are guided. Volunteers complete training in order to conduct tours and must commit to two shifts per month.
Walking Tour : Volunteers lead walking tour of surrounding Pacific Heights Neighborhood. Tours last 1 ½ hours to 2 hours and are offered on Sundays Volunteers complete training in order to conduct tours and must commit to two shifts per month.
School Tours : Tours are offered to select 3rd-grade classrooms through our popular Heritage Hikes program. December through May school groups schedule visits for Tuesdays and Thursdays and are given a volunteer guided tour of the house. Teachers lead the students on a tour of the surrounding neighborhoods. House tours involve additional teaching aids and last around 1 hour. Volunteers and teachers complete training in order to conduct Heritage Hikes tours and must commit to two shifts per month.
Admissions/Bookstore : During public tour hours a bookstore is set up in the ballroom. Volunteers set up the cash register and book displays taking admissions and selling items. Volunteers must complete simple cashier training to work in the bookstore and must commit to two shifts per month.
In the meantime, you may want to learn more about what our docents do by taking a house tour. Tours of the house are given on Wednesdays and Saturdays 12:00 - 3:00 and Sundays 11:00 - 4:00.
