Web Design Opportunity in Berkeley, CA

Our all-volunteer organization has an opening for a Graphic Designer with experience in driving web design projects to help us develop a new website that serves as an umbrella site and media hub for 15+ sister organizations, and to develop branding that unifies these sites.

Candidates should be extremely motivated designers who can adapt to an aesthetic informed by traditional Tibetan art, value working in a team environment, and have experience in marketing and project management.

In addition to possessing a great work ethic, the ideal candidate would welcome a unique opportunity to live in an all-volunteer community and learn about Tibetan Buddhism. No background or religious affiliation is required, just an openness and curiosity. We offer all meals, housing, the opportunity to do meaningful work, and classes on a variety of topics ranging from meditation to Tibetan yoga.

We work 6 days a week. The minimum commitment is 6 months, with a 2 week trial period.

Responsibilities

-Translate business and marketing objectives into designs that are clear, compelling, visually exciting, easy to use and emotionally engaging.

-Participate as a contributor to an interdisciplinary team.

-Produce design specifications, storyboards, motion based (Flash) prototypes, scenarios, and design prototypes.

-Initiate concepts and work independently and/or with others.

-Present multiple solutions per project.

-Manage timing and deliverables for project work.

-Ability to prioritize multiple assignments, and willingness to contribute where needed.

Qualifications

-B.A. in Design or Marketing, plus experience in both these fields

-A track record of implementing beautifully designed sites and managing a process with many stakeholders

-Experience in working strategically with design, marketing, and branding

-Bonus -- Cross-field expertise in any of these areas: Web development, HTML, CSS, UI/UX; Experience with marketing/promotions/advertising, social media, Adwords, SEO; Experience with Buddhist subject matter; Experience with film and editing.

The Guna Foundation was created in 2009 to share the accomplishments of the TNMC mandala with the world, and to ensure that its valuable work to save the Tibetan culture is able to continue long into the future.

Using dynamic digital media, we seek to share the profound vision of our founder, Venerable Tarthang Tulku for the Tibetan Nyingma lineage in the West.

The Guna Foundation archives historical footage; creates web media, photo exhibitions, and promotional material; and produces documentary films all in-house at our studio in Berkeley, CA.
