The Connecticut Association for the Gifted (CAG), founded in 1969, is the pre-eminent parent, teacher and school resource and legislative advocate for Connecticut’s talented and high-ability students. CAG provides parents with information, resources and programs to benefit their talented children; educators with high-quality professional development; and Boards of Education with the tools to support talented students. CAG is committed to increasing public awareness statewide that talented and high-ability children exist in all socio-economic, ethnic, and racial groups. CAG also is interested in extending its reach to traditionally underserved populations.

As a non-profit that receives no government funding, Connecticut Association for the Gifted has traditionally relied on membership fees, event proceeds and limited private donations to meet operating expenses. To generate support for new and existing initiatives, CAG is seeking a board member experienced in Fund Development.

Useful knowledge and skills include:

* A passion for fund development and success coaching organization board and staff as important members of fund development team

* Identification and cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual and institutional contributors, recognizing that the goal is relationship with the funders.

* Experience with grant proposal writing and institutional donors

* Experience with research, development, management, and cultivation of a portfolio of funding sources through grant proposals, site visits, and reporting requirements to achieve the organization’s fundraising goals

* Authorship of annual and multi-year fund development plans

* Ability to tailor the ask to CAG’s audience of parents and educators, as well as to legislators, foundations, corporations and sponsoring organizations.

* Participation in the planning, implementation and coordination of strategic and high-impact special events to cultivate or steward individual donors

* A talent for identifying and crafting stories that communicate the essence of an organization’s mission and successes

* Experience with Peer to Peer fundraising strategy and management

* Experience creating a Culture of Philanthropy

* History of collaboration with Boards and Executive Director

* Social Media and online fundraising experience

* Experience with donor software systems
