Apply at http://bit.ly/sasapply today! Powered by your pet license, volunteers, and charitable donations, Seattle Animal Shelter saved 3,715 animals from homelessness, neglect, and abuse in 2016. Additionally, our low-cost spay/neuter clinic performed 2,613 surgeries, preventing thousands of pets from becoming homeless in the future. While the Shelter Helper role does not involve direct animal contact, Shelter Helpers play a critical role in ensuring SAS cats, dogs, and critters in our care thrive!
This role supports all animals in the shelter by ensuring their kennels and cages are refilled with fresh bedding and toys every day. Duties include laundry and dish-washing (using industrial equipment) and preparing enrichment activities for SAS pets (fill kongs, food puzzles, etc).
Task examples include: laundry/kitchen support, preparing enrichment activities and supplies, tidying up the lobby and volunteer sign-in area. This role does not involve direct pet contact. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, bend, lift.
SAS volunteer orientation and equipment training required (washer/dryer).
Time commitment: One two-hour volunteer shift per week.
