The Seattle Animal Shelter fosters safe, healthy and caring relationships between people and animals in our communities. Just last year we adopted out 764 cats, 333 dogs and 158 critters; reunited 617 lost pets with their owners; helped 144 additional animals in need find appropriate help and investigated more than 1,000 animal cruelty cases.
While the Shelter Helper role does not involve direct animal contact, Shelter Helpers play a critical role in ensuring SAS cats, dogs, and critters in our care thrive!
This role supports all animals in the shelter by ensuring their kennels and cages are refilled with fresh bedding and toys every day. Duties include laundry and dish-washing (using industrial equipment) and preparing enrichment activities for SAS pets (fill kongs, food puzzles, etc).
Task examples include: laundry/kitchen support, preparing enrichment activities and supplies, tidying up the lobby and volunteer sign-in area. This role does not involve direct pet contact. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time, bend, lift.
SAS volunteer orientation and equipment training required (washer/dryer).
Time commitment: One two-hour volunteer shift per week.
