ORGANIZATION: Wheatley Farms and Arts Center - AHRC Nassau

AHRC Nassau has dedicated to to helping the developmentally and intellectually disabled live productive and self directed lives. The individuals that we serve have a need and desire to be accepted as a part of their communities. Many of these individuals are interested in sharing their stories with as many people as are willing to listen. With that in mind, the agency is interested in having volunteers come and meet with individuals to interview them and help them write their own life stories. These stories will be collected and steps will be taken to share them with as many people as possible in any way that we are able. You don't have to be a professional writer, just soemone who is interested in helping to write an amazing story.

About Wheatley Farms and Arts Center - AHRC Nassau

Location:

AHRC Nassau, 115 East Bethpage Road, Plainview, NY 11803, US

Mission Statement

The mission of AHRC Nassau is to advocate for, teach and assist children and adults with developmental disabilities to make life choices, exercise independence and develop responsibility. In this endeavor, AHRC Nassau encourages all individuals to fulfill their dreams and become productive members of the community. This is accomplished by providing an array of individual and family supports.

Description

AHRC Nassau provides an array of support services to more than 2000 children and adults with developmental disabilities through a variety of programs (Residential, Education, Vocational, Child Care, Supported Employment, Respite, Recreation, Benefits/Entitlement, Clinical & Medical).

From gardening to music to movement, Wheatley Farms is not only a part of AHRC Nassau’s Day Habilitation services, but a place for the community to come together. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including autism, can connect with their passions while engaging the local community through recreational, social and volunteer opportunities. Wheatley Farms will grow to become fully inclusive and available to people attending all AHRC Nassau Day Habilitation programs. We seek to connect people based on their shared interests in the arts and operation of a functioning farm. We invite friends and neighbors to join classes, tours, and community-related events.
