Title: Food Pickup Volunteers

"La Casa Norte’s mission is to serve youth and families confronting homelessness. We provide access to stable housing and deliver comprehensive services that act as a catalyst to transform lives and communities." La Casa Norte’s mission and philosophy of service is to impact the social issues of homelessness at the individual and community levels.

This is an ongoing volunteer position placed in LCN’s Food Initiative Program. This volunteer position is beneficial to LCN in assuring our youth, who are accessing our programs receive a warm meal.

Expected Goals and Objectives

Volunteer Commitment

  • Every other Wednesday from about 10am-12pm

Goals: Food Pick-Ups and Drop-Offs

  • Assist Operations Team with second car to transport food from Greater Chicago Food Depository (4100 W. Ann Laurie Place) to LCN’s Casa Corazon south location ( 1736 W. 47 th Street)

  • Assist Operations Team in selecting supplemental food items from the free "Agency Mart" store at Greater Chicago Food Depository

  • Lifting and carrying boxes is not required for this position, as the car can be loaded and unloaded for you

Volunteer Commitment

  • Every Friday from about 1pm-2pm

Goals: Food Pick-Ups and Drop-Offs

  • Pick-up food from 750 S. Halsted and transport to LCN’s Casa Corazon south location ( 1736 W. 47 th Street)

  • Depending on amount of food, may lead to second drop-off (2845 W. McLean Avenue)

Volunteer Commitment

  • 2-5 hours per week in the Chicagoland area

Goals: Food Pick-Ups and Drop-Offs

  • Be on-call and flexible to pick-up and deliver food

    (48 hour notice will be given to volunteer, and sometimes the volunteer can choose the most convenient time to do the pick-up)

In addition to the responsibilities listed above, all La Casa Norte volunteers are responsible for contributing to the overall success of La Casa Norte by:

  • Make deliveries in a timely manner

  • Communicate regularly with the Community Engagement Coordinator and other LCN staff as assigned

  • Attending all volunteer orientation and training sessions

  • Working as a team member with fellow staff and volunteers to provide resources to clients

  • Understanding and adhering to professional boundaries with clients


  • Valid driver’s license

  • Valid car insurance

  • Regular access to a car

  • Available via phone

  • Cautious and efficient driver

  • Able to carry themselves in a professional manner

Development Opportunities

  • Communication with food companies and local businesses

  • Learn about Food Initiative policies and the needs of youth in Casa Corazon program
