Hagar's House is a 5 unit, 30-bed emergency night shelter for families with children.

Decatur Cooperative Ministry is in critical need of volunteers that will greet clients with a warm welcome and help them access supplies, oversee cleanup, wake up guests in the morning, and set out breakfast before closing the shelter. Volunteers agree to stay in the shelter during the night shift to provide general supervision over the facility. Volunteers are provided with an evening meal, a private room with two twin beds and a private full bathroom.

Great opportunity for a volunteer who needs to satisfy volunteer hours! Volunteers are welcome to bring along one friend or family member.

Most needed on weekends, Mon-Fri 6:00pm to 8:30am, Sat-Sun 5:30pm to 11:00pm, 11:00pm to 8:00 am.

Mission Statement

The mission of Decatur Cooperative Ministry (DCM) is to help families facing homelessness settle into safe, stable homes and build healthy lives filled with peace, hope and opportunity.

Description

Founded in 1969, DCM originally served as a coordinator of services provided by local churches and community agencies. In the early 1980s, DCM narrowed its focus towards the alleviation and prevention of homelessness with the creation of an emergency shelter program, a transitional housing program and a homelessness prevention program. Between 2012-2015, DCM further expanded services to include emergency assistance to Veteran households, rapid rehousing services and a permanent supportive housing program for chronically homeless families. Serving approximately 1,000 individuals each year, DCM programs provide families and individuals with the services they need to achieve and maintain long-term housing stability.
