ORGANIZATION: Alzheimer's Association, Colorado Chapter

Our help line counselors assist callers with resources for care of those with a dementia diagnosis. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has had some experience with being a professional or family caregiver, can listen with empathy, and appropriately respond to a caller. This support is critical to our families.

We ask that you commit to volunteering for one half day shift per week, or two half day shifts every other week within our business hours of 9 AM to 4:30 PM.

Confidentiality related to our callers' private information is essential.

We lead Colorado in the fight against Alzheimer's disease and related disorders by increasing the understanding of dementia and its impact on family and community, providing information and support for those affected, and promoting the advancement of research.

Description

The Alzheimer's Association Colorado Chapter works with diagnosed individuals, families, caregivers and health care professionals to provide care and support for those who are affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. We provide a 24/7 Helpline; offer free and confidentail Care Consultations; manage 90 support groups monthly; oversee Memories in the Making art program in area nursing homes; present educational programs across the state; and assist in enrolling persons with the disease in safety programs. We offer culturally approptiate support for Latinos, African Americans and the LGBT community. Several time during the year we have fundraising events, including: The Walk to END Alzheimer's, The Longest Day, the Memories in the Making Gala and Riv/ALZ.
