Places for People serves adults with severe mental illnesses on their road to independence and recovery. Anyone who receives our services does so voluntariliy, often after homelessness, substance abuse, and their mental illness have left them feeling hopeless. This is why we have our Welcome Center, the gateway to services for anyone in need. Adults in all situations are welcome to come Monday to Friday mornings and receive an assessment, to see if they qualify for our services.

For many who seek help, the beginning is the most challenging part. It takes courage to walk through our Welcome Center doors and begin the road to recovery. This is why we try and make this experience as warm and as friendly as we possibly can -- and there is a way you can help these new clients at PfP! By donating premade lunches, clients can have a bite to eat while they wait to receive their assessments or take a meal with them when they go.

This is the perfect opportunity for young volunteers who are not eligible to work directly with our clients or for those whose schedules make it difficult for them to give their time directly to the agency.

What could you include in your sack lunches? Chips, apples, a small sandwich or two, pretzels, a kind note of encouragement, a bottle of water, a banana, an orange... the healthy options are seemingly endless!

Lunches are accepted on a scheduled basis, so as to not overfill our fridges and to ensure that perishables are distributed as soon as possible.

Are you interested in helping this gateway take the extra step in helping adults with severe mental illnesses feel welcome, safe, and healthy? Contact Jen May at 314-535-5600 or via email at jmay@placesforpeople.org
