Helping out at the Survivor Celebration

Komen Lowcountry's Mission Programs interns assist with the planning, development and implentation of a variety of programs including: advocacy, health education, grant making. and survivor events. There is an opportunity for travel within our 17 county srvice area. Experience is not necessary but a desire to help others is vital. Interns must be comfortable working with diverse populations. Interns should also be comfortable speaking with people in distress, as many of our calls are from women seeking help.

Mission Statement

At Susan G. Komen, we know that ending breast cancer is about more than finding the cures. It’s about overcoming the financial, social and cultural conditions that prevent women and men from getting life-saving care. Our mission is our promise: to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

Description

The Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen has been serving our community since 1995. Our first grant was to the Medical University of South Carolina. Since then, we have funded more than 220 grants to local non-profits serving those in need. We have provided more than $6.8 million in funding to community health programs and invested more than $2.5 million in global breast cancer research. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit supported by private donations and sponsorships. We do not receive financial support from other sources such as Komen’s National headquarters or federal grants.

Komen Lowcountry is here to assist more than 800,000 women and their families from the coast to the PeeDee regions. We serve 17 counties and more than 1.6 million South Carolinians, most of whom live in medically underserved regions. As your local partner of Susan G. Komen, we are members of the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and advocates.
