My Bucket list Foundation is an exciting new charity that utilizes technology for the purpose of inter-generational activity. We are a volunteer based organization, empowering teens to participate in activities with elderly individuals. By empowering teenagers to work with senior citizens, we expose them to the honest and pure wisdom of our seniors.
Currently we hold sessions at two-dozen Senior Centers in five different cities in the greater Phoenix metro-area. With the rise in desire for our services, we are finding it difficult to keep up with our limited volunteer base. It is my goal to build a stronger, larger and more impactful group of volunteers to accommodate the rising demand. It is a shame when we cant fulfill requests from these senior-care facilities due to the lack of qualified volunteers.
What we do:
Typically, we go into a senior care facility and utilize Xbox 360 Kinect(r). Xbox 360 Kinect(r) allows the user to interact with the gaming system through simple movements and gestures. We have noticed that senior citizens respond well to the activity-enjoying participating or, in some cases, enjoy watching their fellow residents participate. The importance of aerobic or anaerobic activity becomes greater as individuals get older. As well as physical benefits, we have noticed a correlation with individuals suffering from memory loss as they are able to retain these new techniques on a weekly basis. We see a huge moral benefit for the teens facilitating the activities as well as they gain an appreciation for their elders-a value that has somewhat diminished in today’s generations. The exercise program that we use has nearly 70 games, which stimulate the elderly participants into becoming active. With the use of the Kinect(r), the elderly can operate the game through simple motions and gestures, allowing them to experience a degree of virtual reality.

Description
Let me share a my greatest moment yet. I was with a lady who I am going to refer to as Ms.Jones, who is 85 years old. We put the headset on the resident. We started "Google Earth" And we typed in the correct address the family had provided. Ms.Jones has Alzheimer’s & doesn’t speak very coherently these days. In seconds Ms.Jones was in the front yard of her home from 70 years ago. It took her almost no time at all to recognize her home. Spinning around & being able to see the same home she saw every day outside her home for years growing up. Ms.Jones said "see, I told you we’d be home before dark"." She was talking almost as clear as day. Like she was talking to her sibling.Mrs.Jones has been talking about stories from her childhood home ever since. This elicited tears from everyone around & a few that have heard the story.Lives Revived & Memories Survived
For the 1st decade of this charity existence was myself going into each & every event. Covid has influenced our programming in senior living homes.
we plan on gifting virtual reality to each senior living home, one at a time. This will create the opportunity for a computer & game to be utilized 24/7 instead of just during my weekly or monthly visits. Creating gathering places for the volunteers to focus.
