Parents of children with developmental disabilities need time away from home as much as anyone, but finding someone to care for their son or daughter can often be a problem. In response to this widely felt need, The Arc of Monroe County has established the My Time Providers Program which educates individuals 16 and over on how to care for people with special needs.
Before their services are made available to families, potential providers receive 20 hours of training covering such topics as communication skills, developmental disabilities, creative activities, care providing, CPR and First Aid. Each provider is also given a resource book of helpful information. My Time hours are flexible and the salary is negotiable.
My Time Providers offer families relief from the day-to-day routine of caring for a member who has a developmental disability.
