Shirley Farandnear Perennial Garden Team Members Needed

The Trustees is looking for a few enthusiastic volunteers who would like to become a part of the team that keeps the Farandnear gardens looking beautiful. Bed are located in the pinetum and near the pavillion.

Responsibilities

• Maintain perennial flower beds independently
• Watering, fertilization, weeding, mulching on a weekly basis, as needed
• Successful completion of orientation

Qualifications

• Enthusiastic about plants
• Prior perennial garden care experience preferred
• An interest in performing general gardening practices, including repetitive tasks such as weeding, watering and mulching
• Ability and interest in working independently
• Able to take direction from staff and communicate with supervisor in a timely fashion
• Ability to use garden tools, including wheelbarrows , trowels, shovels and pruners safely
• Ability to work outdoors in varying seasonal weather conditions
• Ability to bend and stoop for several hours at a time
• Basic knowledge of garden maintenance tasks
• Plant identification skills, desired but not required
• Flexible schedule, allowing for multiple visits per week during dry weather
• Commitment to reporting service hours via the Trustees volunteer website

Time Commitment

Approximately 2-4 hrs per week, commit of April 15-Nov 15th preferred
