CMA Kids Fair 2016

On Sunday, May 21, 2017, the Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA) will host its second annual CMA Kids Fair from 11AM to 4PM, located on Charlton Street, between Hudson and Greenwich streets.

The free public event will comprise of curated local artisanal child and family-oriented vendors that focus on delivering unique and high-quality specialty goods. In addition, the event will feature collaborative art projects and outdoor games. Through this event, we hope to bring together the surrounding residential and business communities of NYC in a fun and creative public event designed specifically for families.

Volunteers will be assisting our CMA Teaching Artists to facilitate art-making workshops and activities for children and families. Volunteers will also oversee the Herman Miller Spun Chairs and recreational games, and will aid in the general operations of the outdoor event (including breakdown). As a gesture of gratitude, each volunteer will receive two Family Passes for general admission to CMA at a future date and an official volunteer acknowledgement letter for their efforts. Volunteers will also be provided name tags, snacks, and beverages on the event date.

Mission Statement

The mission of CMA is to introduce children and their families to the transformative power of the arts by providing opportunities to make art side-by-side with working artists.

Description

Since its founding in New York City in 1988, CMA has worked to actively engage children and their families with the arts through family-friendly art exhibitions and hands-on art workshops led by trained, professional Teaching Artists. CMA strives to provide arts programming for all children, particularly those whose needs are not being met at home, school, or by other local organizations. CMA serves children between the ages of 1 and 15 and their families, drawing patrons from across the tri-State area, as well as national and international visitors. In its 2,000 square foot gallery space, CMA organizes curated exhibitions featuring emerging and established professional visual artists. These exhibitions are the inspiration for guided visits from school and community groups led by professional artists who serve as Teaching Artists, who also lead ever-changing hands-on art workshops in nearby studio spaces that incorporate a variety of artistic media. Through single-session group visits and sequential school partnerships, CMA serves over 150 schools locally, as well as thousands more children who take part in museum classes and camps. Though general museum visitors may never see them, community programs are also a vital component of CMA’s mission. These services provide resources for some of New York City’s most vulnerable audiences, all offered at no cost, including children in the NYC child welfare system and foster care, children on the autism spectrum and those with physical disabilities, and children living in transitional housing.
