City of Dreams is currently in need of One to One Mentors. The role of a mentor is to be a positive, supportive, caring and compassionate role model. We help youth build brighter futures by teaching them 12 simple life lessons packaged in 60 annual experiential

1) Mentorship - We pair youth with mentors to help reinforce the concepts in our experiential learning events and to provide a positive, stable, supportive role model outside of their core family.

2) Youth Development - We encourage youth to think critically, by exposing them to a variety of group events, experiences, lessons and exercises designed to teach them that "anything is possible" in life.

Requirements of a one-to-one mentor:

*Outings at least 2 times per month with your mentee (at least one being a Super Saturday)
*4 Mandatory Advanced Mentor Trainings per year not including the mandatory New *Mentor Training (These trainings will give you the tools and support to be an effective mentor and will allow you to learn from your peers, including mentors who have been apart of City of Dreams for an extended amount of time.)
*One year commitment
*Have reliable transportation (either your own car or access to City Carshare/Zipcar), auto insurance, and a valid driver’s license
*Be willing to transport youth to and from their homes and the Super Saturdays

About CITY OF DREAMS

Location:

Mission Statement

To help youth living in low-income housing build brighter futures through mentorship and youth development.

Description

City of Dreams is a 501(c)3 volunteer-based organization serving young people ages 8-17 living in San Francisco’s low-income and public housing communties. We empower at-risk youth to end the generational poverty cycle, make healthy choices, and become architects of their own futures through four dynamic programs: the Mentor Program, Junior Mentor Program, Out of School Program, and Experiential Learning Events. We provide mentoring in group settings and one-on-one matches. They are designed to help youth achieve their potential and avoid negative influences. We believe experiential events enhance the learning process and allow youth to develop the skills needed to achieve their goals. Since our inception in 2004, we have reached more than 4,000 young people and family members. Over 90% of youth completing the City of Dreams program remain in school, avoid teen pregnancy, stay clear of gangs and violence, and avoid drugs and alcohol - four key factors predicting future success. - See more at: https://www.cityofdreams.org/about
