Mom-mentum is a 41 year old national organization providing mothers with personal development, professional development and public policy education is seeking nationwide board members!

If you love our mission, are enthusiastic, positive, resourceful and posess great skill, WE WANT YOU!

Terms run for a three year period. We meet once a year in person (typically in March) and virtually throughout the balance of the year.

Being Sought: In planning for the future, the Board is seeking to add members who can bring additional expertise and resources to support Mom-mentum’s current programming and future growth. As such, we are always looking for people with the following skill set(s):

Human Resources/EAP Expertise: As Mom-mentum moves to further develop its professional development efforts (workplace programming and educational leadership programs) a corporate human resources/EAP professional is critical to ensure these programs meet the needs of its members, supporters and conference attendees.

Strategic Planning/Business Planning: Over the next five years, Mom-mentum faces a number of critical decisions--specifically in business relationship building and diversifying our streams of revenue. A skilled strategic planner and/or business planner is needed to help guide Mom-mentum through necessary evaluations and thoughtful planning that are crucial in a healthy, growing organization.

Philanthropy: Mom-mentum is expanding its outreach to foundations and major donors interested in mothers’ issues and could benefit from a board member with extensive fundraising experience for other nonprofit organizations or with connections to the philanthropic community.

Marketing: As Mom-mentum continues to grow, it is presenting itself to multiple groups: potential corporate customers, program partners, foundations, etc. Professional marketing expertise--preferably within the corporate services community--would be a good board addition.

Fundraising: Being able to approach our long-term financial health from many angles will be a benefit to our board. New members with experience in various aspects of fundraising (direct mail, special events, donor cultivation, grant writing, membership building, planned giving) and those just interested and willing to lend a hand in these efforts would strengthen the board.

Public Relations: Building public awareness is an essential prerequisite for maintaining public support and building a brand. A public relations/media expert, including those with social media and internet expertise could provide important guidance and resources for helping Mom-mentum craft its messages and tell its unique story.

Advocacy/Government/Law: As we become more involved in advocacy work, we will need support in approaching legislators effectively and may even want to work with them to help fashion bills that address our most critical concerns.

Grant writing: Assistance with building a compelling case for support, writing or reviewing proposals and insights into creative approaches to seeking funding would be of great benefit.

General non-profit experience: Nonprofits face many challenges with limited staff and resources, your experience or expertise related to the operation, development and maintenance of a non-profit organization would be welcomed.

IT/website/social networking: Continuously changing technological capabilities are challenging to keep up with, so expertise in these emerging and growing areas are extremely important and will be very beneficial in our planning.

Financial: Expertise in budgeting, money management, accounting standards, investing and many other aspects of financial planning and management is always valuable on the board.

Legal: An understanding of the law in your state. A New York based attorney is most desirable.

As you consider the role you can play in our Board, we are always open to any suggestions for other potential board members you may want to recommend for our other needs.
