In the heart of the great lakes region of Africa, directly on the equator, lies Uganda. Originating as a peaceful hunter-gatherer nation, remnants of history and Pygmy culture can be found in the western region. Volunteers delight in Uganda's abundant beauty national parks, game reserves, lakes and waterfalls can be found everywhere! Land-locked on the eastern side of Africa, Uganda is now a peaceful, stable and prosperous nation. This was not always so, since the 1980s Uganda has been rebounding from a dark and difficult civil war and economic catastrophe. Uganda's people have worked hard for their successful presidential republic. Come see for yourself, and seek the source of the Nile or go volcano trekking while you get to know the diverse clans and people here!

United Planet is the US and Canadian partner of the International Cultural Youth Exchange, or ICYE. As a volunteer in Uganda, you will be hosted by Uganda Volunteers for Peace, or UVP, ICYE's Ugandan partner organization.

Possible volunteer projects include:
- Encouraging youth to stay in school through the creation and execution of workshops related to your skills and interests
- Assisting staff at local organizations with the maintenance of households that receive homeless young people
- Promoting ecological education through conservation awareness seminars
