Refugee youth possess limitless talents bounded by unique challenges. The Refugee Youth Program (RYP) at RST-Dallas assists newly arrived refugee youth (aged 14-17) to become adjusted and engaged in their new communities through regular programming and activities and a Mentor matching program: RYP Mentors are our most valued resource, serving as advocates, confidants, and friends to our youngest clients. We are in specific need of male volunteers for our newly arrived enrollees.

What to expect:

The Mentor role, relationship, and experience can vary widely, based on your mutual interests and the needs and goals of your Mentee. English levels also vary but do of course improve over time, and even more quickly with the help of our Mentors.

Mentors must be open to a 6 month relationship, spending at least 8 hours together in person per month, and making weekly contact (via text, Facebook, etc.). RST-RYP provides plenty of getting-to-know-you opportunities with an awesome schedule of fun monthly events and weekly after-school activities that you are welcome to attend. Transportation and a willingness to openly communicate with the Mentor Coordinator is key!

Contact us today for more information and to schedule an initial orientation! Program-specific supplementary application and interview will follow.
