The RMH Family Room Host/Hostess is a volunteer opportunity that serves both Cook Children's Medical Center and the Ronald McDonald House. The purpose of the volunteer is to provide a comfortable, welcoming, supportive environment in which PICU (Pediatric Intensice Care Unit) families can gather during a stressful time.
Some of the things the host/hostess does are:
Escorts family members and visitors back into the unit.
Provides a listening ear and a supportive presence to families.
Makes coffee and offers snacks to the PICU families.
Takes phone messages for families.
Plays with or reads to siblings and young visitors.
Keeps the kitchen area tidy.
And more.
