Our volunteers are vitally important to our hospice program. Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to our patients and families during the last chapter of the patients' lives. The tuck in call volunteer will make weekly phone calls to the patients and their caregivers to check on their needs. The purpose of the call is to \"tuck in\" the patient for the weekend. The volunteer calls every Thursday on behalf of the nurse and asks if there are any medicines or supplies the patient needs before the weekend arrives. If there are needs, the nurse can then deliver them on Friday so the patient has everything they need to make it through the weekend. Volunteer interaction is so very valuable to our patients and families, but is just as rewarding to our volunteers, who consider it an honor to work with them.

Mission Statement
Icon Hospice promote dignity and comfort to the patient and his or her family and loved ones, during one of life's most pivotal times. Hospice services are provided wherever people with life-limiting illnesses reside and could benefit from care. Icon Hospice makes you and your loved ones the object of uncritical devotion and we have made it a priority to educate our team members on cultural competency, sexual orientation sensitivity and the importance of acknowledging and accepting all religious practices and upbringings.
Description
The role of the hospice volunteer is to provide their time and compassion to those with terminal illnesses. A volunteer may spend their time sitting with a patient and talking about their memories, watching television, playing games, reading aloud, or giving their family member an hour or two to run errands. Even simply sitting and holding the hand of an individual and saying a prayer with them can make an enormous difference in their life. Volunteers can also work in our main office helping to answer phones or doing some light filing. The opportunities are endless! We have volunteer opportunities in both patient homes and senior care facilities. Remember, the last good thing that may happen in a person's life is a hospice volunteer.
