The Issaquah Food and Clothing Bank (IFCB) is developing the Harvest Issaquah program, in which we coordinate "Picking Parties" comprised of volunteers aged sixteen and older at local farms and with community members who currently have gardens and would like to donate a portion of their crop to the IFCB for distribution to our clients.
Picking Parties will take place on Thursday afternoons and during Saturday "brunch hours" from June to October and will involve meeting up at the IFCB before carpooling to Picking Party locations, harvesting produce selected for donation, transporting it back to the IFCB, weighing it in, and washing and crating it for future distribution to our clients, as well as other organizations we partner with.
The IFCB also needs approximately 50 Gleaners (2-3 per team), who are able to quickly and efficiently harvest quality berries, vegetables and fruit on Thursday afternoons and/or Saturday "brunch hours", under the direction of the Lead Volunteers. Having the ability to drive/carpool, transport donations, and assist with sorting, washing and crating the produce will be helpful as well.
The time commitment may vary from 2-3 hours once or twice a week, depending upon your availability, as well as the availability of produce for harvest. The harvest season will last from June to October.
As Gleaner, you would not be required to participate in every Picking Party! We understand that everyone has busy lives and can only volunteer within their own availability; but your commitment and presence will benefit the IFCB's clients, the community members who have excess produce in need of harvesting, as well as your team.
If you are interested in being a Gleaner for the Harvest Issaquah program, please visit our website to register: issaquahfoodbank.org/volunteer/
