About

Horizons for Homeless Children, a non-profit dedicated to improve the lives of homeless children in Massachusetts, is seeking volunteers to play with children living in family homeless shelters in the Northeast region of Massachusetts, including shelters in Lowell, Lawrence, Haverhill, Gloucester, Salem, Peabody, Lynn, Revere, and Malden. There are also opportunities across the state.

A commitment of 2 hours per week for 6 months is required. Some daytime hours are available but shifts are primarily evening hours, Monday through Thursday. Please call (978) 557-2182 or visit www.horizonschildren.org to apply online.

Horizons hosts PAL Trainings across the state, throughout the year. The next training in the Northeast Region will be on Saturday, January 28th from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at the Reading Public Library in Reading, MA. If you cannot make this particular training, we will have other training opportunities on Wednesday, January 11th from 6:00-9:00pm in Roxbury, MA and on Thursday, January 19th from 6:00-9:00 pm in Leominster, MA that could be convenient for Northeast MA Volunteers!

Volunteers must fill out an application and attend a 3-hour Playspace Activity Leader Training in order to volunteer with Horizons for Homeless Children. We also run background checks and complete reference checks.

All Playspace Activity Leaders must be at least 18 years old to volunteer on their own or be 16 years old and accompanied by parent or guardian during their shift.
