Legacy La

Greetings,
It was with great pleasure that you have decided to volunteer with Legacy LA. We are a non-profit organization nuzzled in the Boyle Heights community with a passion to serve the youth living in Ramona Gardens housing projects. Our mission is to make positive interventions in the lives of youth, by offering alternatives to gangs & violence.

Legacy LA provides high school and middle school youth with tutoring. Our programs consist of Middle School Success, High School Success, Leadership & Pathways. Middle School Success offers youth an opportunity to improve academically, one-on-one case management and extra-curricular activities weekly. Tutoring takes place Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays and is in the Ramona Gardens Community Room.

High School Success is for students in grades 9th-12th and offers students tutoring, field trips and more. Tutoring takes place Mon-Thurs at the Wellness Center everyday Mon-Thursday. We are looking for Program Assistants to assist our Program Coordinators with Case Management on Mondays for middle school & Fridays for H.S.

So, if you are interested with becoming a mentor or assisting Program Coordinators with Case Management that would be totally awesome and cool! We could really use your help and the students would really appreciate it.

The volunteer opportunities are very flexible and we can work around your schedule. The mentoring would consist of (you the mentor) meeting with your mentee (student) once a month. Preferably, after school or when tutoring ends. The mentoring would be for one-hour and you can make it fun or it could be educational based.

Or, if you would like to do more admin/office type of work then we do need Program Assistants to assist our Program Coordinators once a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays for all programs. We need also need volunteers to assist with on field trip days and any other assignments that may come up and we need additional hands.

We also have opportunities for big groups such as 20-50 volunteers at time, our next event would be in Late February and early March. Our Cesar Chavez Day would be February 2018, and our project would be to paint the inside of our building. Our building has been going through renovations for the last seven months. So, it would be really fun experience.

Finally, we would need people for the Career Day in April 2018, where we invite community leaders, business partners, and professionals to come and talk to our students about their profession. This is an opportunity for students to learn about various career options steps to become that. This opportunity would be one time opportunity. We currently do not have capacity to host a big groups of volunteers.

Please only submit volunteer interest cards if you are interested in mentoring, becoming a program assistant, or helping us during our big events throughout the year.
We look forward to hearing from you and we thank you!

Best,
Legacy LA
