Host a Student from Russia!

Do you want to be a cultural ambassador for your country and help shape America's global image?

Would you like to create a lifelong bond with a young leader from the other side of the world?

Make a lasting impact on the life of a young person from Russia and volunteer to host for the YEAR Program!

American Councils is looking for families and individuals to host three Russian undergraduates studying at Hawaii Pacific University during the 2016-17 academic year on a competitive scholarship funded by the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. Designed to support person-to-person diplomacy and foster greater cultural understanding between our countries at a time of growing tension, the YEAR program (Year of Exchange in America for Russians) will provide full university scholarships to approximately 75 Russian students who have outstanding academic records, excellent English, and a strong interest in learning about U.S. culture. Three of this year’s top scholarship recipients will study at Hawaii Pacific University from August 2016 to June 2017.

Families and individuals as diverse as America itself can host YEAR students. We ask only that they be open to new cultural perspectives and ready to help a young student adapt to life abroad while providing a comfortable bed, a quiet place to study, daily meals, and friendly conversation.

No one changes the world the way host families do. Would you like to join the ranks of our most important ambassadors? For more information, write us at year@americancouncils.org .

Mission Statement

A leader in international education, academic exchange, and overseas language immersion, American Councils creates opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Description

American Councils for International Education is a premier, international nonprofit creating educational opportunities that prepare individuals and institutions to succeed in an interconnected and increasingly interdependent world.

Through academic exchanges, overseas language immersion, and educational development programs, American Councils designs and administers innovative programs that broaden individual perspectives, increase knowledge, and deepen understanding. After being immersed in other countries and cultures, our participants become culturally aware citizens of the world, contributing to mutual understanding and successful international collaboration.

From developing the first exchanges of Eurasian and American students and teachers in the 70s - to current initiatives supporting collaborative education between the U.S., Middle East, South America, Asia, and Africa - American Councils facilitates overseas experiences that create informed and empowered global citizens. Since 1974, American Councils has responded to the needs of the communities where we work with hundreds of robust, international education programs that include academic exchanges, language immersion, testing and assessment, professional training, community development, and scholarly research.
