About Waltham Fields Community Farm

Location:

Mission Statement

The mission of Community Farms Outreach, d/b/a Waltham Fields Community Farm, is to promote local agriculture and food access through our farming operation and educational programs, and to help people connect with their food supply in healthful and meaningful ways. We use practices that are socially, ecologically, and economically sustainable, and encourage healthy relationships between people, their food supply, and the land from which it grows.

Description

We grow a variety of organic vegetables and manage fifteen acres of leased land with our base in Waltham. Our tagline is "local food for everyone" and we have a variety of food access projects: donating over 15 tons/year of fresh organic vegetables to local nutrition and emergency food organizations, collaborating with social service organizations for own low-income Outreach Market, and working with a local health care center to offer "produce prescriptions" are some examples. We also offer farm-to-table and environmental education programs for children from toddler through teen; service learning/volunteer experiences, and farmer mentoring. We operate a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm-share program and are a resource for other organizations seeking assistance in starting a community farm. We participate in many public forums and host community events, such as Waltham Farm Day - our free on-farm festival held each fall.
