CIANA is a small but dynamic Queens-based nonprofit social services organization that works to integrate new immigrants from South Asia, the Middle-East/North Africa into American life and culture, and assist in their economic and social advancement. We provide holistic, culturally competent social, educational, and informational programs to under-served new immigrant families in a safe and welcoming environment, guiding them through American systems and laws, and helping them successfully integrate into the socio-economic and civic life of America.

CIANA is looking for individuals who want to make a difference, and can devote the time and dedication to a worthwhile cause, using their skills or expertise in any of the following areas: Strategic Planning Fundraising/Development, Grant Writing, HR/Organizational Development, Marketing/ Public Relations, Immigration, Non Profit Law, Accountant/Auditing (Nonprofit), Government contracting, Management Consulting. Leadership in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector is welcomed. Members should consider CIANA a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority within their capacity.

The Board will support the work of CIANA and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by CIANA's CEO, the Board-CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Members should consider CIANA a philanthropic priority and make annual gifts that reflect that priority within their capacity.

Board Member responsibilities include:

- Leadership, governance and oversight;

- Fundraising for the organization and soliciting contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals;

- Serving on committees and taking on special assignments;

- Representing CIANA to stakeholders;

- Acting as an ambassador for the organization

Mission Statement

To provide special transitional services which will lead to the successful integration of newcomers into American society while continuing to maintain pride in their own cultural heritage .

Description

Immigrants and refugees will be provided with the tools to emerge from poverty, isolation, and linguistic barriers to become full, productive American citizens. Our services promote family well-being and stability, provide counseling and support services, and expose newcomers to the social, economic and educational opportunities available to them. Professional social services will include ESOL and civics classes, citizenship preparation, adult literacy, child welfare and youth services, legal and immigration assistance, financial literacy, micro credit and finance, employment assistance, and information and referral services. Newcomers will gain a deeper understanding of western culture and how to incorporate its positive qualities into their lives without fear of losing their culture and identity; it will help them shape an identity that encompasses the best of both worlds and prevents their isolation and marginalization.
