ORGANIZATION: SNAP Consumer Community Service Coalition

  • 7 people are interested

Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring creativity, conservation, and community engagement through reuse. We have many programs including a non-profit retail shop full of reusable materials, creative education programs, field trips, project sponsorships, and an Artist in Residence program. More information can be found on Facebook or at pccr.org.

Our Creative Education team hosts and participates in a variety of hands-on educational programming. Volunteers help us manage our materials and also help us facilitate the creative projects of our program participants.

Applications and descriptions for all of our volunteer opportunities are available at pccr.org/volunteer. All volunteers must fill out an application for the position they are interested in and attend one of our regular orientations.

Mission Statement

The SNAP Consumer Community Service Coalition is an online listing of volunteer projects at non-profits throughout Southwestern PA that may be suitable for food stamp (SNAP) recipients who are required to find a service project in order to maintain their benefits. This is a project of Just Harvest. Just Harvest educates, empowers and mobilizes people to eliminate hunger, poverty, and economic injustice in our communities by influencing public policy, engaging in advocacy, and connecting people to public benefits.

Description

Effective March 2016, Able-Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWDs) are required to complete service hours each month in order to maintain their food stamp (SNAP) benefits, unless they work 20 hours per week, have a short-term disability as verified by a doctor, reside in a high-unemployment municipality, or have another good cause waiver.
