Communications Officer Job Description
You must be willing to join us at our monthly committee meetings at the Milltown Public Library at 10am on the Second Saturday of the Month. The Communications Officer is responsible for working with the Director of Communications in executing all press releases, commercials, and social media presence. The Disability Allies (DA) is dedicated to providing social opportunities to connect young adults and children with and without disabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Uphold high professional standards of the Disability Allies brand.
- Seek out media out and promote event and fundraising events via press releases, social media, flyers, newsletters, word of mouth, and commercials, etc.
- Execute results driven media releases to create strong media relationships and presence.
- Ensure Disability Allies’ events and information are current and easily accessible on popular search engines.
- Explore innovative and novel ways of obtaining media exposure.
- Keep up with CEO’s desire for focus, direction, and vision of organization.
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Familiarity with APA and Associated Press formats.
- Must be capable and willing to supervise and execute media awareness
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
- Must be able to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Ability to connect with others and develop relationships
- Committed to the mission of serving young adults with disabilities
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain detailed records and confidential information

The purpose of the Disability Allies is to plan team building activities that connect young adults and children with and without disabilities. At our events we pair each individual up with a mentor. The job of the mentor is to help the participants with their social skills and insure that everyone interacts with each other. Our events are open to any young adult that has a disability, knows someone with a disability or is supportive of people with disabilities. Currently our events will take place primarily in central New Jersey. We do plan on expanding and we will soon be doing events in all of New Jersey.
