About

The Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law (CHRCL) is a Los Angeles non-profit organization that focuses its work on the civil and human rights of insular minorities and vulnerable communities.

Our organization initiates and conducts impact class action litigation, provides technical support to other providers of legal services, and engages in advocacy work on selected issues impacting vulnerable low-income groups with legal injuries. Several of our projects are described at our web sites: www.centerforhumanrights.org and www.casa-libre.org.

CHRCL is currently seeking volunteers and interns who are committed to creating significant social change in advocating for human rights. Interested individuals will have the opportunity to assist staff to prepare for a landmark case involving asylum-seeking mother's and children being held in detention.

The Flores case, which has been ongoing since 1986, was the first of its kind and set nationwide standards for the treatment of unaccompanied minors in detention as a result of the settlement agreement reached in 1996. Currently, we are involved in litigation with the Department of Homeland Security over their non-compliance with the terms set out in the 1996 agreement. Interns and volunteers will be able to contribute to this effort in numerous ways.
