The social services program plays a critical role at the GAV. The Golden Age Village (GAV) is an independent-living affordable senior housing community, established by Dr. Frances Wu in 1979 with the goal of creating a safe and affortable living enviornment for low-income seniors. The property was developed with funding through the HUD Section 202 program which provides funding for seniors who are 62 years or older.

The goal of social services is to encourage residents to address their social, psychological and physical needs so that they can continue to be independent. Social services volunteers will be responsible to:
  • Provide Chinese-English translation services

  • Refer residents to community resources

  • Onsite group activities

The social services volunteer must be fluent in English, Mandarin, and/or Cantonese. No previous experience is needed and training is provided. Established in 1979 by Dr. Frances Wu, Golden Age Village is owned and governed by the Chinese American Golden Age Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The property was developed with funding through the HUD Section 202 program which provides funding for housing for seniors who are 62 or older. There are a total of 120 rental units.

Description

The Golden Age Village (GAV) is an independent-living affordable senior housing community, established by Dr. Frances Wu in 1979 with the goal of creating a safe and affordable living environment for low-income seniors. The property was developed with funding through the HUD Section 202 program which provides funding for seniors who are 62 years or older.

The GAV has 120 units and is the home for about 150 seniors. To enhance the residents’ quality of life, the property provides management services, monthly birthday parties, karaoke club, computer classes and Physical Education classes. The GAV also has a gym, a library, and a multi-purpose room.

The social services program plays a critical role at the GAV. The goal of social services is to encourage residents to address their social, psychological and physical needs so that they can continue to be independent.
