Program Description: A Gathering group respite site serves up to 8 older adults who are experiencing early to mid-stage memory loss or other health issues requiring supervision.
Offered two days a month, for 5 hours a day, the participants enjoy a safe and social setting while their caregivers (who care for them in their home setting) have 5 hours of much-needed time-off. They have a "respite" from caregiving duties. Prior to attending a Gathering, each participant is assessed by Program staff.
Trained volunteers, supervised by a registered nurse, deliver the day’s activities. Generally, the day includes morning coffee, fellowship, activity, lunch and appropriate afternoon activity.
Schedule: Group meets the 2 nd and 4 th Mondays of each month.
Volunteers are needed 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Duties:
Assist with morning welcome, serving coffee and conversation.
Assist with morning activity - gentle exercises, simple games
Assist with lunch in the Dining Room
Assist with afternoon activity - simple craft, theme activity, reminiscing.
Qualifications: Pass criminal background screening.
Enjoy working with older adults.
Practice good judgment and safety skills.
Follow program policies and procedures.
Additional Positions:
- Past Nurses who still have their licensure to oversee the respite services
- Volunteers to provide potluck lunches for the participants and volunteers
