Are you a professional in the environmental, green, or other STEM field? We want YOU to join us in inspiring today's youth to become the environmental professionals of tomorrow!
Recognizing the existence of the racial 'green ceiling', Great River Greening's Field Learning for Teens (FLT) program exists to introduce youth, particularly youth of color, to the wonders and importance of environmental stewardship and the ways they can be involved in caring for our shared natural spaces - now and as future professionals. With a unique focus on career exploration, Greening connects teens with EnvironMentors to discover opportunities in the environmental field.
To do this, we need YOU.
Dates: We are currently planning for the 2020 season and will have dates throughout April-October.
Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour (typically around lunchtime)
Location: throughout the greater Twin Cities; outdoor parks nearby participating schools and youth groups
Scope of Work: EnvironMentors lead 30-minute small group discussions with FLT youth that focus on: the mentor's professional and academic experiences, career tracks, and challenges and opportunities they've faced in the field. This is a way for environmental professionals to share their stories and engage in meaningful discussions with youth on entering the green jobs career path.
We are dedicated to recruiting enthusiastic volunteers for this role and are committed to specifically engaging mentors who reflect the racial diversity of the youth we serve.
