Beehive

Beehive is an open source initiative improving humanitarian crowdfunding through a real time platform that allows aid to be mobilized in crucial times. We need an open source developer to help us build this product.

These are our needs:

  • Using Twitter Bootstrap, code an initial empty shell/website foundation for Beehive.ngo that initial containers can be incorporated into.
  • Generate and post a block of code on GitHub
  • Establish a file structure
  • Ensure that the folders and code get properly situated on Beehive's server

The context:

We're building an initial placeholder site for Beehive.ngo featuring a list of aid activities reported by humanitarian organizations. We need a shell to incorporate a container for the list. Different teams of volunteers will create new containers, Twitter Bootstrap is a popular and well developed framework suitable for an open source project.

Mission Statement

Beehive is a nonprofit open-source initiative and program of Empowerment Works that's bringing humanitarian organizations, tech volunteers and supporters together to work on improving humanitarian crowdfunding technology.

Description

Beehive is an outgrowth of a United Nations conceived micro-grants program. The program was shelved in early development then restarted outside of the UN by former UN staff and veteran humanitarian actors and turned into an open source initiative.

Join us! We’re tackling how to reduce the turn around time and effort it takes humanitarian organizations to raise funds to launch and sustain their operations.

Beehive is the first crowdfunding platform humanitarian organizations can use to fundraise with their IATI activity files. IATI is an open data sharing framework for aid activity reporting used by over 400 humanitarian and development organizations, created by the International Aid Transparency Initiative. We’re using Beehive to solve and model how to link professional aid activity reporting and crowd-fundraising to make humanitarian crowdfunding better.
